Peter J Wilson is an internationally recognised theatre director, producer, writer, puppeteer and educator with more than 50 years of experience creating theatre, puppetry and large-scale cultural productions across Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States.
Director of Puppetry, King Kong — led the creative development and performance direction of the six-metre Kong, coordinating 14 puppeteers for the Helpmann Award-winning production that later transferred to Broadway.
Writer & Director, Bali Agung — created the landmark production for Bali Safari & Marine Park, combining puppetry, dance, music and spectacle. The production has achieved more than 4,000 performances and reached over two million people.
Major international ceremonies — creative credits include the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, Doha Asian Games, Japan World Expo and major cultural celebrations across Asia.
Extensive Asia-Pacific experience — has maintained a creative relationship with Indonesia for more than four decades and has written and directed 11 major productions for Taman Safari Indonesia, eight of which continue to perform daily.
Creator of major attraction-based productions — credits include Varuna, Pearl of the South Sea, Lila and the Magical Forest and productions for Jakarta Aquarium, Bali Marine Park and Taman Safari Indonesia.
Leader in puppetry and visual theatre — established Australia’s first postgraduate puppetry course at the Victorian College of the Arts and has taught, mentored and led creative exchanges internationally.
For The Waterhole, Peter brings decades of experience in visual storytelling, large-scale puppetry, theatre direction and the creation of permanent attraction-based productions for family audiences.
