Technical Director

David Filshie is a technical production and project manager with more than 37 years of international experience across theatre, opera, festivals, arena shows, exhibitions, puppetry and large-scale live events. His work spans Australia, Asia, the Middle East and the UK. 

• More than 37 years in technical production — extensive experience leading culturally diverse teams across purpose-built venues, site-specific productions, touring shows, festivals, exhibitions and large-scale events. 

• Technical Director, Taman Safari Indonesia — managed local vendors and technical infrastructure for major productions in Bali and Bogor, including staging, lighting, sound, video, performer facilities and an outdoor amphitheatre partly situated on a lake. 

• Production Manager, Elekron, Macau — managed the first all-electric vehicle indoor arena show, incorporating car and motorcycle stunts, aerial performance and parkour from concept through completion. 

• Extensive theatre and opera experience — senior production roles with Scottish Opera, West Australian Opera, Black Swan Theatre Company and major musical-theatre productions including Cats Goes to the Circus. 

• Large-scale cultural events and festivals — Technical Producer for Malaysia’s Citrawarna, involving more than 450 performers, live music, pyrotechnics, street parade and stage spectacle, alongside extensive international festival experience. 

• Technical leadership and education — served as Head of Production at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Production Manager at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy and currently leads the Art of the Possible technical theatre and management training programme across India.
